Moments | Wedding Photography | Seattle
For the final installment of my three-part series reflecting on the 2010 wedding season, I’ll share a few intimate moments in wedding photography.
Natural moments are what I believe great wedding photography is all about. It’s what I, as a photojournalism trained photographer, specialize in. Blending into the background and being as unobtrusive as possible allows me to capture these unique moments. When images aren’t posed, the subjects’ true emotion comes through, providing images as special and different as each couple.
I have always felt honored to be able to preserve these moments so that couples have a lifetime of memories from their wedding. I’m looking forward to doing it all over again this year!
Imaging USA | San Antonio, Texas
I just returned to Seattle from an intensive two day business workshop in San Antonio. We had very little time to get out and see the city, but I wanted to share a few images from my wanderings.
A few from the Alamo and the Tower of the Americas. The door of the Alamo says “Be silent friend, Here heroes died, To blaze a trail, For other men.”
The trade show portion of the conference was still being set up. Looks like photographer heaven or information overload.
Some really random things in the hotel. Really? A phone with no numbers?

Portraits | Wedding Photography | Seattle
In the second installment of my three-part series reflecting on the 2010 wedding season, I’ll share some of my favorite wedding portraits.
As a photojournalist, I don’t pose images. However, portraits are a historically important part of wedding coverage. What is the first image that comes to mind from your parents’ wedding? Your grandparents’ wedding? I’m guessing it’s a portrait.
A couple of straight forward family portraits are important for the record of the day. For the bride and groom though, I like to have a little more fun, taking advantage of the surrounding environment and the personality of the couple. Wouldn’t you love to have a unique image like this of your parents?

Detail Photos | Wedding Photography | Seattle
As I reflect on the 2010 wedding season here in Seattle I thought I’d share images which I think are quite important to the overall coverage of a wedding. In this first of a three-part series, I’ll share a few detail images.
These images serve as a record of all the work behind a wedding. Whether it’s the favor boxes couples spend hours assembling, precisely arranged name cards or the artistically sculpted cake, these images capture special elements of the day that may otherwise go unnoticed. During my own wedding, things happened so quickly that I really appreciated looking at the detail images of our cake and the decorated tables.
The detail images below are a little less literal than a cake on a table. Just the same, a bride’s lacy dress against granite stairs, a groom’s last minute note to his bride, a groom being quite literal with his boutonniere label and creative ring images all serve as creative behind the scenes reminders of the day.

Portrait | Mike Town | Freelance Photography Seattle
Several months ago I had the pleasure of photographing Mike Town for an issue of Window, the Western Washington University magazine. Town is an Environmental Science teacher in Redmond and now is an Einstein Fellow at the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C. These images were taken in the Wild Sky Wilderness, near Index, WA, a new federal wilderness area he helped persuade Congress to protect. You can read the full story on the Window website, here.
I met Mike in Index, Wa then followed him further east, pulled off the road, ducked under a fence and hiked north to the banks of the Skykomish River. I photographed him in the forest and among the rocks of the riverbed, both part of the 106,000 preserved acres of the Wild Sky Wilderness.

Heather & Bobby | Georgetown Ballroom Wedding | Seattle
Heather and Bobby were married at the beautiful Georgetown Ballroom in Seattle. Their ceremony was followed by a reception with crepes and wood fire pizza. I had the privilege of shooting this wedding alongside friend and fellow wedding photographer Niki of NJD Photography. I just love the Georgetown Ballroom for it’s warm and inviting atmosphere. The textures and light add another dimension to the space.

First Seattle snow
I just had to get out and take a walk during Seattle’s first snow accumulation for the season. Here is a little video I put together from my walk around the West Seattle neighborhood.

Nala & Jimmy | Seattle Wedding | A second look
Occasionally, I like to go back to a previous wedding and edit with an eye towards the non-traditional. There is something in the subtle simplicity of them that I like. These are from Nala & Jimmy’s China Harbor wedding. I’m throwing in a few at the end that I also like for the quiet and boisterous moods they exude.

Tracie & Josh | Bellingham Yacht Club Wedding | Bellingham, Wa
Tracie and Josh held their wedding at the Windows on the Bay event center at the Bellingham Yacht Club. The weather was perfect, except for the wind, and some kind boaters insisted that we take some photos aboard their boat. The Popoffs rocked out the reception even letting the bride and groom play cowbell on some songs. To view hundreds more images or purchase prints, please visit here.
